8. Notice the Negative
Show Notes
From the time we wake up in the morning, we often start having negative repetitive thoughts such as:
I’m still tired but I’ve got to get up and get going.
I have nothing to wear.
We’re going to be late!
We’re out of milk for breakfast.
I’ve got so much to do today, it’s overwhelming.
These kinds of thoughts go on and on throughout the day and can leave us feeling moody and exhausted as the day goes on. Our brains go on autopilot and think these thoughts on default when we don’t need to.
If we start to notice the thoughts we can provide positive and empowering alternatives that will really improve our mood, energy, and outlook.
Some ways to notice when there is negative thinking happening is when we roll our eyes, sigh, slump our shoulders, or groan. These kinds of physical signs are almost always signs of unconscious negative thinking.
Even simple things like diaper changes and unfinished tasks take a toll on our mental state that really add up throughout the day. In addition to our actual to-do list, we also create a silent to-do list of a million little things that we need to take care of.
In this episode I’ll share some solutions to help you notice your unconscious negative thinking and your silent to-do list so you can choose your thoughts intentionally and feel better more of the time.
